The Legend of
Rawa Pening
Once upon a time,
there was a little poor boy came to a village in Java Island. He was very
hungry. He knocked the door one by one to ask some food. But nobody cared about
him. Fortunately, an old women helped him. She gave him a plate of rice and
meat. When the boy finished the food, he gave a lesung to the women. Lesung is
a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. The boy reminded to use this lesung to
save her from flood. The old women confused but she said “yes, of
course".
The little
boy continued the trip. And then, he implant one of palm leaf in land. He
challenged many people in the village to pull out that stick. Anybody laughed
with big voice. One by one people try that but nobody can’t pull out that stick
and give up. Finally, the boy try to pull out that stick with easily. People in
that village cant believed that. Suddenly, the hole left by stick put outside
the water. The water spouted out. It didn’t stop until it flooded the village.
And no one was saved from the flood except the little boy and the old woman. The
woman save because she use a lesung from the little boy. The village of woman
became a huge lake. It’s now as Rawa Pening Lake in Central Java.
